The report identifies five barriers blocking progress toward supermanager readiness:

  • Clarity and Communication — Only 6% of organizations have very clearly defined what they expect from managers in an AI-driven environment. Just 13% have updated career paths for managers.
  • Skills and Development — Leading through change and uncertainty is the #1 future-needed skill for managers, yet it ranks among the lowest current strengths. Only 26% of organizations say their development programs prepare managers to lead in an AI-driven environment.
  • Tools and Activation — Only 23–30% of organizations provide managers with AI tools for coaching, feedback, team performance, or employee listening—and even fewer have clear governance policies around AI use.
  • Behavior Adoption and Accountability — 74% of respondents say building and maintaining high trust levels is very important for managers. Yet only 26% say their managers actively prioritize trust-building around AI.
  • HR Capability — 85% of HR teams call building effective managers a strategic priority. Only 29% believe they have the skills to deliver on it.
